This is the perfect time of year to perform the scheduled yearly
maintenance to your Hobbing and Hob Sharpening equipment.
- The machine should be cleaned well.
- Clean the coolant sump and replace the coolant with fresh coolant.
- Verify that all lubrication lines are intact and that all designated points are receiving adequate lubrication.
- Clean the index worm gear case and replace the oil.
- Check that all drip lines to the change gears are hooked up and working.
- Check the level of the machine.
- Check alignments of the overarm and bedways.
- Check tailcenter alignments.
- Check hob spindle and work spindle runouts.
- Check tooling for damage.
- Check backlash of Index Worm and Gear.
- On sharpeners check condition of index plates and index ratchets.
- Verify that all the change gears do not have excessive wear.
- Verify straightness of hob arbors and hob sharpening arbors.
- Clean Hydraulic sumps, replace filters and replace hydraulic oil.
- Check electrical cabinet for tight connections or burned components.
- Check wires to all limit switches for tight connections.
- Check backlash of Feed worm and Gear.
It is a good idea to record all of your findings on these checks. In the future, maintenance can proceed a lot quicker
