This month we will discuss
"Suggested Machine Load Limits". The Load Limits suggested by Barber-Colman are as
follows:
| 6-10, 6-16, + 6-20 machines |
0.15 - 0.25 |
| 16-16, 16-36, + 16-56 machines |
0.75 - 1.50 |
| 14-15, 22-15, + 14-30 machines |
1.50 - 2.50 |
| 10-10 + 10-20 machines |
2.50 - 3.50 |
| 12-10, 12-15, + 16-15 machines |
3.50 - 4.50 |
| 25-15, 25-30, + 40-15 machines |
3.50 - 4.50 |
The formula for Approximate Load is:

The formula for Cubic Inches per Minute
is as follows:
Cubic Inches per Minute = Hob RPM X Feed per Work Rev X Area X Hob Threads
The formulas for Area are:

These formulas will tell you if the
feeds and speeds you are running are within the limits of the machine. Running the machines within
the suggested limits will greatly increase the life of the machine and will even improve the life
of your cutting tools.
We hope this information is of use.
