"Tips & Techniques" - September, 2002

It is the time of year that we should be thinking of performing our yearly preventative maintenance on our hobbing machines. These reminders may help.

  1. Clean the machine.
  2. Clean the coolant tank and change coolant.
  3. Verify that the level of the machine is within specifications.
  4. Verify that the over arm is parallel to the bed ways.
  5. Verify Index Worm and Gear backlash.
  6. Check the lubrication system for any leaks or blocked lines.
  7. Check the hydraulic system for leaks.
  8. Verify condition of the center.
  9. Verify Straightness of the hob arbor.
  10. Check End Support Bearings.
  11. Check work holding fixtures for run out and that they hold securely.
  12. Verify condition of change gears.

We wish everyone a great holiday and hope that September 11 tragedy will be remembered by us all as a wakeup call to bigger and better things.
